Aerial Productions Announces the Release Of THE FOURTH ANNUAL N.A.M.E.S. EXPO – Available For The First Time On DVD

(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 23, 2007 ) Detroit, Michigan -- The fourth annual exposition of the North American Model Engineering Society (N.A.M.E.S.) has been called “… the most comprehensive array of scale model gas and steam engines ever assembled in North America.”

Aerial Productions has re-released this classic modeling video for the first time on DVD. The video is a professionally-produced documentary of the Fourth Annual N.A.M.E.S. Exposition. . . shot in broadcast quality. The DVD features the “best of show” models, most of which were from “scratch” (not from kits). The DVD includes an original music score by famed world class harmonica player, guitarist and soloist, Peter “Madcat” Ruth.

The one hour video documentary was shot at the B.F. Yack Arena in Wyandotte, Michigan – the former home of the annual N.A.M.E.S. Expo. The Expo has since moved to a new location in Toledo, Ohio, but most experienced modelers and modeling fans agree that the Fourth Annual N.A.M.E.S. Expo was one of the very best expos to date. For modeling fans who weren’t able to attend the Fourth Annual N.A.M.E.S. Expo, Aerial’s new DVD provides a second chance to see what they missed.

The video documentary was critically acclaimed by the two top modeling magazines, MODELTEC and Home Shop Machinist. This is what they had to say about the documentary:

“The number of professionally photographed modeling videos is on the increase, and the statistics are helped along by this particular offering, which is a tour of the Fourth Annual North American Model Engineering Society Exposition . . . If you haven’t yet had a chance to attend one of the N.A.M.E.S. Expositions in Wyandotte, Michigan, you will probably be somewhat awed by the model work in this one-hour video. Using broadcast-quality equipment, the producers moved close in to many models and got up close and personal with a number of modelers. Close-in shots feature everything from shiny model airplanes to wobbling wall engines to steam locomotives – the latter to the sound of famed blues harmonica player Peter Madcat Ruth’s rendition of The Wabash Cannonball.

“Interviews with some notable modelers include Paul Jacobs, Rudy Kouhoupt, Wayne Grenning, and Ray Hasbrouck. Paul discussed his approach to modeling his British textile mill engine, and also talked about making patterns and castings. Ray Hasbrouck gives detailed descriptions of his working model of the engine used in the Civil War Ironclad, Monitor. Wayne Grenning discusses the design and operation of his unusual and elegant 1866 Otto Langen engine.

“One thing that very definitely does come across in the video is the sense of overwhelmed awe when one is confronted by a literal sea of fine model work. The Fourth Annual Expo was my first time at N.A.M.E.S. that I can well remember the feeling. The video producers were obviously as much entranced by the quality and quantity of the models as by the number of people who had come long distances to see them. Their viewpoint is much as you would find in a report done by any prime time news team, a look at us by someone as intrigued by us as by our models. As a result, this would probably be a good film for clubs to add to their libraries, to be used on such occasions as public shows and run days, as an introduction for all those inquisitive common citizens to a very uncommon hobby.”
- George R. Broad
MODELTEC Magazine

“The producers of this video have seized the chance to provide the waiting world with a full-color look at the Fourth Annual N.A.M.E.S. Show. To a musical backdrop by Peter Madcat Ruth, the viewer will enjoy close-up shots of operating engines, interviews with talented modelers such as Paul Jacobs, Ray Hasbrouck, and Rudy Kouhoupt. If you wanted to be there and just couldn’t make it happen, this is the next best thing. If you’re considering the trip for next year’s exposition, the video will whet your appetite and cement your plans.”
