League of Legends overtakes WoW to become Most Popular MMORPG Game on PC reports BestFreeMMORPG2013.com
Gameplay hours recorded were nearly double that of legendary MMORPG World of Warcraft
One of the longest running titles to stay at the number one spot on the list for many years, Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft, is said to have finally lost their throne while Minecraft and Heroes of Newerth follow behind.
The website’s research wing made the findings public after data found that League of Legends had nearly 1.3 billion hours of gameplay time in the duration of a year. Those figures were enough to easily take down rivalling game, World of Warcraft, which is believed to have half or even less that amount.
“We’re quite surprised by its success over the last 12 months. Of course, we didn't doubt the games potential, nor its popularity, but who would have predicted that it would dominate the legendary World of Warcraft by such a huge distance? Truly, gamers have voted with their feet, and now it's fair to say that league of Legends should be considered one of the true greats of PC gaming world,” editor of “iLeagueofLegends” said in a release.
Obviously with their position at the top now, League of Legends does not expect to face the similar conditions as WoW did at one point with barely any competition. Instead, they are reportedly constantly working on improving the interface and working on techniques to grab newer games entering into the field.
Diablo III is seen to be the biggest threat to League of Legends as the newly released game had already recorded nearly 173 million hours of gamers playing in its first three months.
