Environmental Products Inc. begins distribution of a new line of biodegradable plastic products.

New biodegradable plastic bag options stand to help reduce litter and waste through full degradation in multiple environments.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 07, 2012 ) HAMILTON, OH -- EPI Environmental Products Inc. is currently launching OxoGreen, a new line of oxo-Biodegradable plastic products. This roll-out is beginning with garbage bags, but will expand to cover many other applications as demand increases for degradable plastic bags.

Confronting the issues of loose trash, low recycling rates and the swelling of landfills; OxoGreen plastic is able to degrade when disposed of properly in landfills and to biodegrade in nature.
This product sets itself apart by the inclusion of a patented additive into the resin during the plastic manufacturing process. The additive allows the plastic to begin degradation in the presence of heat, UV light and/or mechanical stress. Ultimately, laboratory tests show that the plastic will biodegrade into CO2, H2O and biomass.

Even when recycled, standard plastic bags still pose a threat to the environment.

“There’s harsh economics behind bag recycling: It costs $4,000 to process and recycle 1 ton of plastic bags, which can then be sold on the commodities market for $32.”
Jared Blumenfeld (Administrator for EPA’s Pacific Southwest Region)

Although the oxogreen stock line is currently very limited, approved converters still have the ability to produce custom runs of varying styles of bio-degradable plastic and plastic bags. EPI's TDPA® (Totally Degradable Plastic Additive) has been used in products ranging from retail carrier bags to foam packaging and shrink wrap. Custom production also provides a surprising benefit, the ability to adjust additive to account for a products specific shelf and service life.
