NYCDA's Artistic Director Joan See urges serious acting students to consider the benefits of conservatory and acting schools study

Those who wish to pursue a career in acting should strongly consider a conservatory program over a typical university education. The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts urges aspiring actors to evaluating all acting school options.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 25, 2012 ) New York City, NY -- Joan See, Founder and Artistic Director of The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, participated in "Making 'The Right' College Decision,” a dialogue, webcasted on November 10th, on the varied types of acting training available post-high school.

Presented by The Hippodrome Foundation, Inc. and sponsored by the University of Maryland, panelists discussed the types of degree or non-degree programs that are best for students pursuing a career in the arts. While other participants celebrated the virtues of the BA and BFA programs, Ms. See spoke to the vast advantages of entering a conservatory program or attending one of the many acting schools in NYC.

“There are many options that the conservatory has that a university might not provide,” she noted, going on to describe the highly specific skills that NYCDA teaches its students about the craft of acting. Universities and degree programs may provide a broader education, but a conservatory program offers unparalleled experience and real-life training that standard programs cannot deliver.

Emphasizing the many performance opportunities within the conservatory, Ms. See spoke passionately about NYCDA’s dedication to developing a vital professional discipline within its students. “Building you as an artist, as a human being with a soul and a point of view about the world in which you live ― that’s part of all good training. If you commit to that training without a backup plan, you’re going to come out that kind of person… Risk and reward should go hand-in-hand.” She was careful to point out that students who complete the two or three-year conservatory programs may be eligible to transfer into colleges or universities with up to a Junior class status if they later wish to earn a degree.

The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts is one of the best acting schools in NYC and across the country. A select core of talented students are accepted each year, and these students gain access to the largest independent casting facility on the east coast, along with everything that New York City has to offer aspiring professionals interested in the theater, television and film industries.
