(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 26, 2012 ) Boracay Island, Philippines -- Boracay, the premiere tourist destination in the country, was the venue of the recently concluded 2012 Kiteboard Tour Asia. Winners for the Twin Tip and Race Board courses for men and women were awarded at the conclusion of the competition.
Kiteboard Tour Asia is the first sanctioned organization in Asia to conduct international kiteboard competitions. The KTA is holding their Asian Tour this year for their second season ever since the organization was instituted. The first leg of the Asian Tour was held on the waters of Boracay Island from January 11 to 15 and the results of this round of the competition have been confirmed.
The Winners
The top three leaders of this round’s Twin Tip Course Race for Men were Kerem Bailk from Turkey, followed by Doque de los Santos from the Philippines, and Ryan Cahilig also from the Philippines.
Rank four to six for the Twin Tip Men’s Course were won by the following competitors:
4th Place - Bobo Corniel of the Dominican Republic.
5th Place - Anthony Martinez from the Philippines.
6th Place - Stefano Ganugi from the Philippines.
The leaders in the rankings for Twin Tip Women’s Course were Michalina Laskowska from Poland at first place, followed by Rebecka Maudal from Norway, and Dina Muldasheva from Russia.
Rank four to six for the Twin Tip Women’s Course were won by the following competitors:
4th Place - Madli Olem from Estonia.
5th Place - Susan Kay from New Zealand.
6th Place - Berna Ozturk from Turkey.
The Race Board Men’s Course leaders were led by Salih Cakir from Turkey holding the first place, followed by Ken Nacor from the Philippines at second, and bringing up the third spot is Taner Aykurt from Turkey.
Rank four to six for the Race Board Men’s Course were won by the following competitors:
4th Place - Sugiraha Kazumasa from Japan.
5th Place - Keewan Kwon from Korea.
6th Place - Ejder Ginyol from Turkey.
The Race Board Women’s Course leaders were Kathrin Bogwardt from Germany taking ranking first, Aya Oshima from Japan at second place, and Rahel Holliger from Switzerland who took third seat.
Rank four to six for the Twin Tip Women’s Course were won by the following competitors:
4th Place - Astrid Berz from Switzerland.
5th Place - Bilge Ozturk from Turkey.
6th Place - Paochu Tienye from China.
Next Scheduled Events
KTA officials say that the second round of the Asian Tour will be held in Mui Ne, Vietnam from February 15 to 19 with freestyle and race as the related disciplines. Round three will be held in Pranbun, Thailand from March 13 to 18 where the Asian Course Race Championships will be held. Round four and round five are to be held in Taiwan and Sri Lanka however the venue will still have to be confirmed.
Bulabog Beach is the second most popular beach on the island of Boracay. It is the center of kiteboarding and windsurfing on the island. Although the more popular White Beach has more tourists, Bulabog Beach is heaven for kiteboarders.
