Last year, the Aklan Province governor predicted that the total number of tourists coming to Boracay will increase and may well reach 900,000 in 2011. Since that number of visitors is expected to rise in 2012, preparations are on the way to accommodate the increased number of guests.
As expected, the total number of tourism receipts also increased for 2011 compared to the previous year. The tourism receipts for the year 2011 amounted to PHP 1,433,280,164.40. This represents a 34% increase compared to the revenue generated in 2010.
More tourists are expected to arrive starting in March 2012 due to the increase in the number of international routes that will fly directly to Kalibo, Aklan from international locations such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea. To date, there are a total of seven new direct flights to Kalibo planned this year.
With so much growth expected for 2012, business owners and everyone concerned have a huge reason to be optimistic this year. It will also pose a challenge to the locals who cater to the needs of guests. A lot of opportunity broods in the air and this year is a very promising one for Boracay, the premier tourist destination of the Philippines mostly because of the world famous White Beach.
