Close to $7000 US Raised by Online Community in Support of Philippine Sendong Victims
Dumagueteinfo.com - An online community in Dumaguete, Philippines has raised over $7000 to help local families who had their homes and lives washed away in the tropical storm Sendong.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 09, 2012 ) Dumaguete, Philippines – Tropical storm Sendong Victims received a Christmas gift from unlikely sources which helped ease their suffering as Internet heroes in a true Christmas spirit donated thousands of dollars towards relief aide.
In today’s modern world where online news travels around the globe, people from all over the world stretched out their virtual hands to help those in need in and around the Dumaguete area raising over 300,000 Pesos or the equivalent of around $7000 US dollars.
Some of these Internet heroes are the Russell family located in Thailand who read about the relief effort on a travel message board and donated $1000 US dollars. Then there is a group calling themselves ‘Warriors for Sendong’ who banded together on a Webmaster support message board named Warriorforum and collectively raised $2000 US dollars for the cause.
This online effort spearheaded by http://www.dumagueteinfo.com/ and their web master has proven that the online community definitely knows how to step forward and come to the aide of those that can’t help themselves.

The volunteers in Dumaguete are using all funds collected to go straight to the victims of the storm. All transportation fees and other administrative expenses are being paid for straight out of their pockets to ensure that all those who so generously donated money and rest assured their donations are going directly to the victims.
All community leaders have been touched by the generous support coming from online with comments like these from Batinguel Elementary School Teachers, “…we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous support to the flood victims in our barangay. We continue to pray that God will bless you more as you continue to work in your ministry. God bless.”
Even local trike drivers are doing their part, as Rudolf says in one supply run, “…We got him yesterday morning at the market to deliver sacks of rice, bread and other stuff to Candau-Ay. He carried all sacks and rejected any payment, not for his work and not for gasoline, he simply helped with a big heart.”
