The audience is transported to the milonga, a social dance, where partners embrace and their movements whisper their secret stories to the sensual moan of the bandoneon.

CHERCHEZ LES FEMMES
A highlight of the show, "Tango in Paris," is choreographed just for women. Dancers evoke the early 1900's when tango took Paris by storm. They take inspiration from such fictional characters as the dashing Maurice LeBeau, bon vivant turned tango dancer, and Miriam, the Russian Jewess who landed in Paris and was swept off her feet by the irresistible Juan Sapaterro (his ganchos left her breathless) ... and more.

The modern day Tango Tales are inspired by these Parisian muses who keep the spirit of the dance sizzling throughout the performance.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit social Dance Cultures, a Marin-based non-profit dedicated to encouraging and supporting dance as a means of developing community.

CONCEIVED AND DIRECTED BY DEBBIE GOODWIN
An accomplished tango dancer/choreographer and teacher based in Marin County, Ms Goodwin has immersed herself in Argentine Tango culture for the past 17 years. Tango Tales is rooted in her ethnological research of tango communities, the topic of her master's project in dance from CSU Sacramento and her continued interest in the profound effects tango plays in the lives of those who enter into this culture.

"Argentine Tango conjures up images of passion and seduction the average person only dares to fantasize. Tango Tales indulges the audience in this fantasy world with dances based on the real life experiences of the tango dancers of Marin," says Goodwin. "My hope is this student production will entice some audience members to strap on those dance shoes and experience their own tango tales."

THE CAST OF TANGO TALES
Tango Tales dancers are a diverse group of "tangueros" (tango enthusiasts). Some are just embarking upon their tango experience while others have been dancing for over 7 years. The show also features two professional guest artists. Dancers range in age from 30-73 and reside in Marin, Sonoma, the East and South Bay.

Social Dance Cultures is a non-profit 501(c3) organization, currently focused on endeavors related specifically to Argentine Tango. SDC is the umbrella organization for Alma Del Tango, its educational outreach program. Alma Del Tango's Debbie Goodwin and John Campbell bring dance classes, lecture demonstrations and performances to the Marin County community.
