Gynecological Cosmetic Surgeries on the Rise

LegalView, a leading online legal resource has updated its vaginal mesh portal regarding new cosmetic surgeries- for the vagina.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 02, 2011 ) Pitsburgh, PA -- LegalView, a leading online legal resource, is warning women of the potential risks of vaginal mesh. The site, which provides free legal consultations, has updated its vaginal mesh portal regarding a new kind of cosmetic surgery - for the vagina.

These surgeries have not been approved by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists nor are they accredited by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. However, an increasing number of women have opted to have these surgeries performed.

Sherie, a 36-year old woman from Oregon, had a vaginal surgery performed last year. She became concerned about the appearance of her inner labia. After having multiple surgeries to correct this problem, among others, she was extremely pleased with the results and encourages women who are unhappy with their appearance to have these procedures done.

However, many women have to return for corrective surgeries after the initial surgery does not go as planned. For instance, Ella, a 46-year old nurse from Texas, had to have a corrective surgery done after the initial labial reduction did not go as planned. However, after she had the corrective surgery, she was very pleased.

While there may be nothing wrong with trying to improve the look of a woman’s vagina, many of these surgeries are performed in conjunction with vaginal mesh procedures. Trans vaginal mesh is a synthetic mesh that can be inserted either vaginally or abdominally to treat pelvic organ prolapse (POP) or stress urinary incontinence (SUI).

Vaginal mesh has been linked to several, serious complications including one in which the mesh erodes into surrounding organs and tissues, and can break through the skin. Other complications include, but are not limited to, painful sexual intercourse, painful urination, bleeding and infection.

POP occurs when the ligaments or muscles that hold the pelvic organs in place become weakened or stretched due to childbirth or hysterectomy. The pelvic organs then slip out of place and descend- or bulge- into the vagina. A vaginal mesh can help hold these organs in place.

SUI can be described as an involuntary loss of urine during physical activity like sneezing, laughing, coughing, or exercising. A vaginal mesh can help support the bladder and create continence.

LegalView provides free case consultations to women who have experienced the painful complications of vaginal mesh. For more information about legal rights, please visit LegalView.com.
