Southwest Idaho waterways are luring in fishermen
Pack up your lures and line and grab your rods and reels before heading to southwest Idaho.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 29, 2011 ) BOISE, ID -- Pack up your lures and line and grab your rods and reels before heading to southwest Idaho. The region is covered in great fishing spots where fisher folk can spend a week kicking back in the peaceful, great outdoors. Check out these great fishing locales, and learn about others at www.visitsouthwestidaho.org
• C.J. Strike Reservoir has three unique sections in the high desert. Cold and warm water species can be found here such as bass, sturgeon, perch, and catfish. This area is particularly popular due to boating facilities that stay open year round. After a day on the water, look for wagon ruts left by travelers on the Oregon Trail.
• Up near Emmett the Black Canyon Diversion Dam creates the Black Canyon Reservoir where anglers can fish for largemouth bass, rainbow trout, crappie, white fish, bullhead, and channel catfish. Don’t forget the binoculars; between bites there are ample opportunities for wildlife and bird watching.
• If you don’t want to hassle with equipment join a guided trip. Capt Jim Looney owns Brownlee Reservoir Charters which operates on the Brownlee, Oxbow, and Hells Canyon Reservoirs near the Oregon border. Bring the kids or grandkids along for a memorable family trip.
In the evenings cook your catch over a campfire or head into town for some local hospitality. Camp and RV sites, cabins and even yurts are available at a number of southwest Idaho parks.
