Thompson, 69, passed away unexpectedly last week at his home in Auburn, NY. A pioneer in the field of professional crisis communication training, Thompson's techniques have been used around the country, notably by the New York Police Department, Los Angeles Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

For 27 years he led a global team of trainers through his Verbal Judo Institute; an estimated one million people have been trained in these techniques. Additionally, Thompson wrote four books and has been interviewed extensively on the subject.

The memorial service will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the White Chapel, 197 South St., in Auburn, NY. Telephone (315) 258-9101.

For Thompson, an iconic figure within law enforcement around the country and the world, the Syracuse Police Department will provide a color guard presentation.

In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting contributions to the college fund for Thompson's 9-year-old son. Checks may be made payable to Franklin Templeton, and sent to Laudadio Financial Services, 210 N. University Drive, Suite 404, Coral Springs, FL 33071. Please indicate "Tommy Thompson College Fund" in the subject line of the check.
