(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 08, 2002 ) The DNV-classed fleet of vessels is growing steadily. Exactly 5,000 vessels (ships and MOUs ) are now classed by DNV.

This is 124 more vessels than at the end of 2001 and a total of almost 92 million gross tonnes, 2.4 million more than nine months ago.

“We are growing according to plan, both in gross tonnage and market share,” states Ragnar Hansen, director for marketing and profiling in DNV Maritime, whose order book now stands at 12.8 million gross tonnes, 20.3% of all ships on order.

“This volume represents two years of work for us,” says Ragnar Hansen, who also highlights the fact that many of the new ships already in DNV class are so-called high-value ships - offshore support ships and others.

"We are now aiming for 100 million gross tonnes - a milestone we, according to our plans, intend to reach at the end of next year - or in the first part of 2004".

DNV has now 5555 employees - and operates from 300 offices in 100 countries.
