The company said that its loss widened to $109.9 million, or $1.18 a share, from $26.5 million, or 29 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. On an adjusted basis, loss was 9 cents a share.

Analysts were eyeing the company for a loss of 32 cents a share, on average.

Silicon Laboratories (NASDAQ:SLAB) plunged 7.50% to $35.62 and made a new 52-week low of $34.18 on heavy volume of 6.15 million shares after the company lowered its third-quarter guidance on weak customer demand.

The company now expects revenue for the third quarter to be between $118 and $122 million. Third quarter GAAP diluted earnings per share are projected to be approximately $0.32 to $0.35, and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share, which excludes non-cash charges primarily for stock compensation, are now projected to be between $0.50 and $0.53.
