(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 06, 2010 ) Port Angeles, Wash. – Olympic Cellars is offering-up some sizzlin’ summer fun on July 10 – 11, pairing award-winning new wine releases with a Saturday evening concert featuring the soulful vocals and searing guitar of Seattle’s Red Hot Blues Sisters. Throughout the weekend guests can savor Le Mélange Nouveau, a limited edition white wine delicately infused with local lavender, along with new varieties of some old favorites. Viaggio’s will be on site from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday cooking up wood-fired pizzas uniquely prepared to complement the wines. The celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, with the outdoor concert beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Concert cover charge is $5.

“Each year our French winemaker, Benoit Murat, produces better wines,” says Olympic Cellars Owner Kathy Charlton. “The evolution of his unique winemaking style, his increased familiarity with Washington terroir, and the grapes he has sourced amongst the state’s top vineyards all contribute to the quality of the final product. The 2007 vintage has been highly anticipated since a special vertical tasting event we hosted in February. This vintage includes our Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah, all of which will be released in July along with our 2008 Dungeness Red Lemberger (a gold medal winner), and Le Mélange Nouveau Lavender Wine.”

“Le Mélange Nouveau,” Charlton continues, “is a local wine produced with Madeleine Angevine grapes, a variety known for its fruity and citrus flavors, from Dungeness Valley Vineyard in Sequim. We infused the wine with a blend of English Lavenders (Angustifolia species) from Sequim’s Lost Mountain Lavender Farm, and came up with our best vintage in four years! We look forward to sharing this special, limited edition wine with our guests on July 10-11.”

Heating Up the Patio . . .
Dancing shoes a must -- once the Red Hot Blues Sisters hit the winery’s outdoor patio no one will want to sit down! This five piece band, featuring lead vocalist Suze Sims, guitarist Teri Anne Wilson, bass player Patrick McDaniel, keyboardist Joseph Anthony and drummer Carl Martin John Oliver will rock the barn with songs like Lost and Found, Put Your Heart Out, and Flood in the Basement. Powerful gritty vocals, mesmerizing guitar solos and a groove that is right on just won’t let you sit still! The band has delivered main stage performances at the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival, Sunbanks Blues Festival, Mt. Baker Blues Fest, Bite of Seattle, The Yale in B.C. Perfect Partnership – Homeward Bound
Continuing its steadfast commitment to supporting women and families, Olympic Cellars will partner with local non-profit Homeward Bound, a 501c (3) Community Land Trust providing permanently affordable home ownership opportunities for families in Jefferson and Clallam counties, during the event. Homeward Bound will provide volunteers to run the outdoor wine bar during the Saturday concert in exchange for a cash donation from Olympic Cellars – a win/win opportunity for both organizations. The donation will be put toward pre-development costs for a six-house project the organization is working on in Port Angeles.
