(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 01, 2010 ) Building momentum for his grass-roots campaign, Steven Brooks has received several key labor endorsements, including Nevada State AFL-CIO, Southern Nevada Central Labor Council, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1107 and Laborers Local Union 872.

Brooks is seasoned in handling issues with local government and is currently on hiatus from local government to embrace his community through candidacy for State Assembly District 19. Brook’s position on jobs and equal pay for all employees helped earn him the endorsements.

“My supporters know that I’m going to fight for working families and to bring good jobs to the residents of my district,” said Brooks, Chairman of the Board of the Las Vegas Urban League. “I understand what is needed and I’m very pleased with these endorsements.”

Active in the community, Brooks currently serves on the Community Land Trust Board (CLT), Hispanic Art Museum Board and is a former founding member of the Southern Nevada Enterprise Community Board (SNEC).

The Nevada State AFL-CIO announced its endorsement of Brooks recently at the COPE Convention. At the COPE Convention, Brooks also received an endorsement from Southern Nevada Building Trades.

The Nevada State AFL-CIO is the state federation of The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) comprised of 120 local affiliated unions with over 200,000 members. The AFL-CIO is a voluntary federation of 54 national and international labor unions.

The Southern Nevada Central Labor Council, affiliated with the AFL-CIO and the Nevada State AFL-CIO, endorsed Brooks at a recent meeting. SEIU Local 1107 represents more than 17,500 health care and public service employees across Nevada.
