The largest verdict of the day came in Gainesville, Florida, where attorney Greg Prysock recovered a $46.3 million verdict for his client in a lawsuit against R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Mr. Prysock represented Lyantie Townsend, who was widowed when her husband Frank died from lung cancer in 1995. Mr. Townsend had been a smoker since age 13 or 14. Mr. Prysock is a managing partner of the North Florida office of Morgan and Morgan and is also a partner in the firm’s Orlando office.
The second jury verdict was recovered by Alexander Clem and John Dill, attorneys at the Orlando office of Morgan & Morgan. Mr. Clem and Mr. Dill obtained a $1.1 million wrongful death verdict on behalf of their clients, James and Laura Boyan. The Boyan’s son, Jeffrey, died as a result of the catastrophic injuries he sustained in an auto accident. Jeffrey Boyan sustained serious head injuries when a van crossed the center line of State Road 40 in Ocala and ran head-on into his truck.
