Recent News on Bank of America
Bank of America Corp. said in a regulatory filing Thursday that its rate of U.S. credit card loan losses eased in March.
The bank said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that its charge-off for card balances was 12.54 percent last month. That was down from 13.51 percent in February. The charge-off rate is the percentage of loans that the company has determined won't be repaid, because they're at least 180 days late.
Despite the improvement last month, the rate remains elevated when compared with industry charge-off rates from before the start of the downturn. Credit card issuers have written down record high loan losses in the past year or so as consumers struggled to pay their bills.
In another sign that loan losses may be improving, however, Bank of America also said its rate of loans that are 30 days or more delinquent also eased to 7.07 percent in March. That was down from the 7.23 percent in February.
