TSIA’s Technology Services World Event Hosts Timely Session on Healthcare Legislation and Its Impact on Service Organizations
Expert Medical Technology Panel to Discuss Recent Federal Legislation, Electronic Health Records, and Security and Privacy Issues
(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 01, 2010 ) SAN DIEGO, CA, March 31, 2010 – The Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA), the technology services industry’s largest and most vibrant association, announced a timely session on the Technology Services World 2010 (TSW 2010) Silicon Valley agenda: “The Impact of Healthcare Legislation on Service Organizations.”
Taking place on May 5, the session will feature a panel of healthcare information technology experts who will discuss the impact of healthcare legislation on field services, support services, and professional services organizations. Panelists include Beau Woods, solutions architect for SecureWorks; Bobbie Holm, chief of e-health for the California Office of Health Information and Integrity; and Sheryl Moran, vice president of client services for rL Solutions.
“The challenges facing providers of medical technology solutions are very common to the challenges facing the providers of enterprise technology,” said Thomas Lah, executive director of TSIA. “However, there are clearly nuances regarding regulations and compliance. We are excited to see these medical technology companies coming together to share their approaches and benefit from their mutual experiences.”
The expert panel will present information in the context of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other recent legislation. The discussion will include consumer access to electronic health records, changes to privacy provisions, expanded enforcement by attorneys general, and monetary penalties for violations.
“Service organizations should know the impact of new regulations on their processes and staff,” said Michael Israel, senior research director of TSIA. “For example, when a medical device with patient data is serviced in the field, it’s important to know what the field technician’s responsibilities are.”
