Travel sky-high on Mt. Everest Heli-trek

Shrouded in clouds and steeped in tales of tragedy and triumph, Mt. Everest is a more than a mountain; it is the stuff of legends.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 16, 2010 ) CHICAGO – On iExplore’s trek through the foothills of Everest, you have the opportunity to experience the majesty of this massive peak sans stringent pre-departure training.

Starting in Kathmandu, the trek trails through beautiful villages, Sagarmatha National Park and right up to the basecamp. Before guests start the anticipated journey, enjoy an exploratory walk in the old part of Kathmandu; wander past the vegetable and spice markets, beautifully carved old houses, stupas and temples, cows pestering the vegetable vendors and more.

The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and the landing at the small mountain airstrip is something adventurers will be talking about for many years to come. The giants of the world appear on the horizon as travelers fly like insects up the vast valleys towards Lukla. Memories of the day will include the sounds of porters with transistor radios, a cacophony of different languages and strange sounding birds. Trekkers will see porters and many explorers resting on sticks outside tea houses, as well as panting, sweating, tired Westerners on their way back to Lukla, Prayer flag poles and the gaudy colors of the tea houses line the streets of villages as the most striking mountains in the world splay across the backdrop.

Travelers will hike about 3 hours a day, with plenty of breaks and a rest day in between. The last stint of the trek up to the Everest Base Camp will actually be traveled by a private helicopter. After days of these monstrous mountains towering over you, you’ll get to experience the scenery from an entirely different perspective as you fly through the Himalayas. The helicopter will then take the group back down to Kathmandu for some rest and relaxation before guests return home.
Costs for this 9-day itinerary start at $6,395. Media contact: Hailey McDonald. 970-379-9363, hailey@atmstravelnews.com, www.iexplore.com, Photos available. Click here for media kit.
