The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.95 points to 10567.33 the Standard & Poor's 500 rose 5.17 points to 1145.61 and the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 18.27 points to 2358.95. Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) went up 0.16% to $12.82 on 56.85 million shares. Reuters reported that according to a Swedish business daily, Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd. has secured financing to buy Ford Motor Company owned Volvo cars for about 15 billion Swedish crowns ($2.10 billion). Chinese financial institutions and regional government bodies had provided the money for Geely to complete its purchase.
Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) rose 5.07% to close at $20.52 on 16.85 million shares.
RadioShack Corporation (NYSE:RSH) was one of the top performers of the day and went up 5.58% to $22.70 on 13.35 million shares.
Vimpel-Communications (ADR) (NYSE:VIP) soared 5.13% to $20.28 on 7.08 million shares.
American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE:AEO) jumped 6.12% to $18.20 on 17.50 million shares after the company posted sharply higher quarterly profit on improving sales and fewer price markdowns, and the teen clothing retailer forecast first-quarter profit that could top Wall Street estimates.
SunTrust Banks, Inc. (NYSE:STI) gained 2.56% to $26.49 on 12.60 million shares.
Sirius XM Radio Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRI) added 1.10% to $0.921 on 99.67 million shares.
Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) surged 4.89% to $9.87 on 39.34 million shares.
Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE:S) soared 0.83% to $3.65 on 130.96 million shares. So far the stock is up over 9% in the last 5 trading sessions.
