(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 04, 2010 ) Dallas, Tx - Pier 1 Imports, Inc. (NYSE:PIR) jumped 1.61% to $6.94 after it said Thursday that it expects earnings for its fiscal fourth quarter to be at least 29 cents a share, compared to a loss of 33 cents a share a year earlier. Sales in the quarter ended Feb. 27 rose 1.8% to $396 million from $389 million and the company said its merchandise margin will be better than expected at 55.7%, compared to 44.3% a year earlier. Comparable store sales for the quarter were up 6.5%. Analysts polled by FactSet had been expecting earnings of 25 cents a share on sales of $405 million.

Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. (ADR) (NYSE:STP) jumped 7% to $14.63 after it swung to a fourth-quarter profit of $49.9 million, or 27 cents a share. Analysts had been expecting earnings of 12 cents a share, according to data compiled by FactSet. Last year the firm posted a loss of $109.1 million, or 69 cents a share. Revenue rose to $583.6 million, from $414.4 million last year.

Urban Outfitters, Inc. (NASDAQ:URBN) surged 3% to $34.40 after it said its fourth quarter to Jan. 31 profit rose 92% to $78 million, or 45 cents a share. Fourth-quarter comparable retail segment sales rose 9%, with total sales up 16% to $589 million, a company record. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected earnings of 40 cents a share.

Zumiez Inc. (NASDAQ:ZUMZ) soared 28% to $20.44 after its same-store sales surprisingly rose 11.20%, easily beat the estimated rise of 1.20%.Total net sales for the four weeks ended Feb. 27 increased 19.6% to $27.6 million, said the specialty apparel retailer.
