Joy Global Inc. (NASDAQ:JOYG) added 5.85% to $54.51 on 8.92 million shares after the company posted better-than-expected quarterly results as the commodities markets continued to improve, and raised the lower end of its 2010 earnings outlook. For the first quarter Jan. 29, the company reported earnings of $76.2 million, or 73 cents a share, compared with earnings of $85.7 million, or 83 cents a share in the year ago period.
Yingli Green Energy Hold. Co. Ltd. (ADR) (NYSE:YGE) gained 1.14% to $12.41 on 8.82 million shares.
Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARNA) also rose 3.51% to $3.24 on 4.61 million shares.
Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. (NASDAQ:EGLE) surgeD 3.13% to close at $5.61 on 4.91 million shares after the company yesterday reported a quarterly profit above analysts' estimates, as expenses fell, and the dry bulk shipper said it would benefit from its exposure to the spot market. For the latest fourth quarter, Eagle Bulk earned $2.2 million, or 4 cents a share, compared with a profit of $9.2 million, or 20 cents a share, last year.
Hovnanian Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE:HOV) added 4.28% to $4.14 on 5.98 million shares after the company on Tuesday posted its first profit since 2006, helped by a tax benefit. Hovnanian, one of the 10 biggest U.S. home builders, reported net income of $236.2 million, or $2.97 per share, compared with a loss of $178.4 million, or $2.29 per share, a year earlier.
Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. (NYSE:ETH) went up 25.14% to close at $20.11 on 3.76 million shares.
