(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 03, 2010 ) Columbus, OH - While the first two months of the new decade have left something to be desired in the minds of many MMA fans worldwide, March of 2010 looks to usher in the most packed month of professional fighting action in since last Summer with a slough of high-octane fight cards being presented both free on TV and on Pay Per View throughout the month.

WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz, which features the first title defense of newly-crowned WEC Bantamweight Champion Brian Bowles when he takes on highly regarded contender Dominick “The Dominator” Cruz, kicks off this Saturday, March 6 from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio with the entire main card airing live on the Versus Channel.

Originally pegged as a heavy underdog heading into his August 2009 title fight with former champion Miguel Torres, undefeated challenger Bowles (8-0 MMA) left no doubt as to who was the better man that night as he became the first and only man to defeat the champion inside the distance, finishing Torres off by knockout part way into the first round to claim the belt.

Although he debuted for the WEC sporting an undefeated record back in 2007, challenger Cruz (14-1 MMA) tasted the first and only defeat of his professional career when former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber submitted him in the first round. Since dropping down to his more natural weight class of 135lbs, Cruz has reeled off five straight wins—four in the WEC—with the most recent being an impressive Unanimous Decision against aggressive contender Joseph Benavidez last August to become the undisputed challenger to the bantamweight crown.

Also on the card will be a plethora of WEC mainstays when former champion Torres returns to action for the first time since losing his belt to take on Benavidez in a battle that is likely to have immediate title ramifications for the victor. In addition, former UFC Lightweight Champion Jens Pulver will look to reestablish himself in the packed 145lb division when he returns to action against Javier Vasquez in one of the featured bouts of the evening, following the anticipated main card debut of former IFL standout L.C. Davis.
