Dallas, TX - Friday, most of the Homebuilders stocks sold off sharply despite the companies have been reporting profit on tax gains.
M.D.C. Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:MDC) plunged 4.50% to $33.06 after Citigroup analyst Josh Levin downgraded the home builder to hold from buy. M.D.C. Holdings, based in Denver and most widely known as Richmond American Homes, reported its first profit since the third quarter of 2006, posting fourth-quarter net income of $127.2 million, or $2.68 per share. That compared with a net loss of $89 million, or $1.92 per share, a year earlier.

KB Home (NYSE:KBH) lost almost 2.80% to $14.92 extending the sharp decline of 9.50% in the two previous trading sessions.

D.R. Horton, Inc. (NYSE:DHI) declined 4% to $12.67. In the last two trading sessions, DHI fell the least as posted its first quarterly profit in almost three years on a large tax credit and healthy sales, beating analyst estimates.
Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) declined 4.11% to $14.71.

Beazer Homes USA, Inc. (NYSE:BZH) rose 1.22% to $4.07 after Beazer said it earned $50 million, or $1.17 per share, in its fiscal first quarter, ended December 31, compared with a loss of $80.3 million, or $2.08 per share, last year. Excluding the benefit, Beazer would have lost $1.07 per share, missing analyst estimates of a loss of 90 cents per share.
