China Ready to Take on Boeing, Airbus with Comac C919

February 3, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ China is preparing to build its own aircraft to rival industry giants Boeing and Airbus, and the country will be ready to deliver planes to customers as soon as 2016.

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) unveiled a model of its first aircraft, the Comac C919, at the Singapore Air Show. The Comac C919 will compete directly with the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 after a four-year test period.

The plane is being completely designed and constructed in China, and as many as 2,000 of the aircraft are scheduled to be built over the next two decades. Although Comac itself is only 18 months old as a company, it already has its eyes on grabbing a 10% share of the market with the C919.
