Amazon Relents to Publisher Macmillan, Agrees to E-Book Price Hike

February 2, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ Under pressure to compete with the Apple iPad and its deal with publishers to charge premium prices for e-books on the platform, Amazon may have no choice but to raise prices on its Kindle e-books to placate publishers.

Amazon has bowed to pressure from publisher Macmillan and will start carrying Macmillan-published titles at $12.99-$14.99 instead of the standard $9.99 price tag.

Will other publishers follow suit and force Amazon to accept the pricing they want or will Amazon maintain its $9.99 pricing structure for Kindle in the long run?
