Historically, the main tool in the marriage counselor’s bag was communication. Other items in that tool bag included scheduling changes and cooperative activities. The ultimate hope was for the couples to remember the reasons that they fell in love and reignite that flame. Further, for healthy young couples it is often stated that, as intimacy and sexual activity wanes, so too does the relationship. It is rare to find young couples in marriage counseling that have a healthy, active, fulfilled sex life.
