Since 1991, when READ was launched in a remote Himalayan village by Dr. Antonia Neubauer, the organization has dedicated itself to developing and implementing a replicable model for sustainable rural development. Instead of a hand out, READ provides a hand up, partnering with rural villagers to build self-supporting library community centers that become the nexus of regional activity and development. With Nepal as its beta site, READ has demonstrated that such a model, properly executed, can give hope to many for a different future, change a country and has the potential to change the world.
Dr. Neubauer, is offering a new trip to explore the inner workings of READ. On “READ: Across Bhutan”, She will share the successes of the organization by taking groups through the communities and talking with the local people involved in the operations of the READ facilities. This trip only departs on Nov. 5, 2010, with a cost of $2,995 per person.
