In November of 2005 shorter warranties went into effect for many large appliance manufacturers including Whirlpool, Roper, Estate and Inglis brands. Major appliance manufacturers are reviewing the data from their pricier competitors and they believe that shorter warranties may stimulate business for their GE appliance repair and Whirlpool appliance repair. It might even put the Maytag appliance repair man back to work.

Typical appliance warranties cover parts and service for one year from the date of purchase. After that, the consumer must pay. Before the warranties were reduced, expensive parts like refrigerator compressors and dishwasher tubs were covered for 5 to 10 years. Now consumers will have to by an extended warranty package to get longer coverage. The cost is about $100 – 200 for three years.
