(ADR) (NYSE:STP) soared 5.96% to close at $15.99 after its third-quarter earnings fell 30% as sales slid, but the solar company said it was encouraged by sales improvement from the second quarter. Its results handily topped analysts’ expectation and the company boosted its 2009 shipment target while seeing the potential “for at least 75% shipment growth in 2010.”


Sunrise Senior Living, Inc. (NYSE:SRZ) surged over 14.49% to end the day at $3.16 on a volume of 5.50 million shares after it announced that it has completed the sale transaction for 21 wholly owned assisted living communities, located in 11 states, with BLC Acquisitions, Inc., an affiliate of Brookdale Senior Living Inc., or its assignees, for $204 million. At closing, Sunrise received approximately $60 million in net proceeds after payment or assumption of approximately $134 million of mortgage loans, the posting of required escrows, various prorations and adjustments, and payments of expenses by Sunrise.


Trina Solar Limited (ADR) (NYSE:TSL) climbed up 6.60% to close at $45.57 after it reported third quarter earnings of a dollar 29 per diluted American Depositary Share, up from a dollar 17 in the same quarter last year. Net revenue fell just over 14% year over year, but surged 66 and a half percent quarter over quarter. Shipment volumes and gross margin both exceeded prior guidance.
