MMA news site featured live round by round blog of televised UFC fights including Ortiz vs Griffin rematch.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 16, 2009 ) Cleveland, OH - On Saturday, November 21, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will put on one of the most highly-anticipated rematches in the company’s short history when UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin 2 kicks off at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fights will begin at 7 pm in Vegas with two of the preliminary card bouts televised on Spike TV at 9 pm followed by the 10 pm Pay Per View main card. For those that will be unable to order, be sure to follow all of the action with ProFighting-fans.com, as we will be providing live, round-by-round updates and commentary on each of the featured bouts of the evening as well as the official UFC 106 results.
While the card would have been even bigger had UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar not been forced out of a scheduled title defense against Shane Carwin earlier in the month, UFC 106 still promises to be the most highly-anticipated show since UFC 100 and UFC 101 this summer. With a main event featuring a long-awaited rematch between two former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions and a co-main even pitting two of the most explosive fighters in the 170 pound division, UFC 106 should not disappoint.
After winning the 205lb title in July of 2008, TUF 1 winner Forrest Griffin has since run into a rough patch in his Cinderella story career, losing back to back contests—both by knockout—to former champion Rashad Evans and reigning middleweight champion Anderson Silva respectively. Ortiz, also riding a dismal streak—0-1-2 in his last three contests—is currently coming off of a 16-month layoff following back surgery last year.
With both fighters needing a win over a high-profile opponent in order to remain relevant in the UFC's stacked 205lb division, the main event of UFC 106 should be an absolute war, just like the first contest, during which Ortiz took a controversial Split Decision victory in April of 2006.
In the co-featured bout of the evening, welterweight contenders Josh Koscheck and Anthony Johnson will collide in an explosive contest that will either provide Koscheck with a chance to reestablish himself as a top contender once again, or establish Anthony Johnson as a future superstar. With top-notch wrestling and striking across the board, this contest will likely come down to who connects first, but the real winner will be the fans watching in attendance and at home on Pay Per View, as both fighters are rarely glimpsed in a boring contest.
