(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 05, 2009 ) FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JUNEAU, Alaska- The “off season” runs October through April when the weather turns cold. The local bears may be hibernating, but the city of Juneau is wide awake and brimming with things to see and do! Travelers to Alaska’s capital city can enjoy a vibrant arts and adventure destination during every season. The breathtaking winter landscape is the backdrop for many outdoor winter activities in the area around Juneau. Cold weather sports enthusiasts have a variety of exhilarating activities, from ice skating and ice hockey on the rinks – indoor or outdoor -- to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing the mountain meadows. The stunning downhill slopes from the peaks around Juneau provide skiable terrain that seems endless for downhill skiing, snowboarding and even heli-skiing. Juneau’s “best little ski area in the world”, Eaglecrest Ski Area, offers an abundance of groomed trails from beginner to expert skiers. For those that prefer to take in the beauty of the area without the adrenaline rush, there are many invigorating winter hikes in the areas around town.

Rather stay indoors? The “off season” is turned on with a rich cultural community that is fully alive October through April. Stimulate the senses and renew the spirit with an array of performing and visual arts throughout the winter months. A wide variety of cultural options are available including the First Friday gallery walks in downtown Juneau, highlighted by the Annual Gallery Walk the first weekend of December , the Alaska Folk Festival in April, numerous performances by the Perseverance Theatre, the Theatre in the Rough, the Juneau Symphony, Juneau Dance Unlimited, Opera to Go, and the Juneau Lyric Opera.

To round out the Juneau experience, great shopping and incredible dining are available year-round. Whether an off season visit to Juneau is for business or for pleasure, make time to experience it all. Opportunities abound for an active outdoor adventure or an evening at the symphony -- it can all be found in Alaska's capital city.
