After opponent Josh Barnett was forced out of a scheduled title fight at Affliction: Trilogy on August 1, 2009, Fedor Emelianenko, one of the most sought-after fighters in the world, was left without an opponent. Following the collapse of Affliction as a fight promoter the same week, Fedor was also left without a promotion until Strikeforce won the bidding war to gain his services in a co-promoted effort with M-1 Global.

Now set to make his Strikeforce debut on the biggest American stage he has ever been a part of, Fedor is looking to prove to mainstream American audiences that he is more than just an over-hyped import from Russia with a resounding victory over the younger, larger newcomer in Brett Rogers. In other action, Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi, a training partner of Fedor Emelianenko’s, will square off with the hard-hitting Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou in a non-title affair while top-ranked heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva clash in order to determine a possible opponent for the winner of the main event heavyweight war between Fedor and Rogers.
