Ivanhoe Energy Inc. (IVAN) is an independent international heavy oil development and production company. During the year ended December 31, 2008, Company acquired two leases located in the Athabasca oil sands region in Alberta, Canada.

“Oil revenue in the second quarter of 2009 increased by 5% compared to the previous quarter, reflecting higher benchmark crude oil prices. The Company utilizes costless collar derivatives in conjunction with its banking arrangements in order to reduce cash flow volatility. During the second quarter these derivatives provided realized gains of approximately $76,000. Due to higher oil prices at the end of the second quarter compared with the end of the first quarter, valuation of open positions on these derivatives at the end of the second quarter declined and led to an unrealized loss of approximately $1.2 million during the quarter.
“In mid-September, IVAN Ecuador signed a contract in October 2008 with Ecuador state oil companies Petroecuador and Petroproduccion to explore and develop the Pungarayacu field, utilizing IVAN’s proprietary Heavy-to-Light (HTL) heavy-oil upgrading technology. The new review, prepared by leading industry consultant Gaffney, Cline & Associates (GCA), of Houston, Texas, concludes that the Pungarayacu Project contains a Best Estimate of 6.4 billion barrels of original oil-in-place.”
