Spring Events Highlight Cedar City’s Calendar
Spring is the perfect time to visit the Cedar City/Brian Head area of Utah, in between the winter ski season and the summer crowds visiting Bryce and Zion National Parks.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 22, 2009 ) CEDAR CITY, Utah–Utah’s Cedar City/Brian Head region draws winter visitors to ski at Brian Head Resort and summer visitors to view Bryce and Zion National Parks and the many other scenic landmarks in the area. But spring brings nice weather, less crowds and interesting events. The Parowan Gap Petroglyphs National Historic Site is home to intricate, detailed rock carvings that likely depict the movements of the sun, moon and stars. The Spring Equinox is celebrated here with a presentation of the ancient Native American solar calendar and the observation of the fall equinox sunset. In late May, Cedar Breaks National Monument reopens for the season with ranger-led hikes, geology programs and exhibits. It hosts monthly Star Parties near the new phase of the moon each month. Park staff and astronomy volunteers present a program followed by star viewing through the several telescopes at Point Supreme. The region is also host to the Utah Summer Games, held June 9-27. This is the largest Olympic style sports festival in Utah. It presents typical Olympic events, along with other events such as bass fishing, rock climbing and ultimate Frisbee.
