Romance and Involvement in Costa Rica
What could be more romantic than escaping to the rainforest for adventure and exploration, then combining that with volunteering and working with the indigenous people?
(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 17, 2009 ) CARTAGO, Costa Rica— The stereotype of a romantic trip is getting away from it all. But what could be more romantic than getting away while getting involved? Costa Rica’s Tropical Adventures is known for their innovative trips that allow travelers to become truly involved with this unique country and its people by working with them as volunteers and living with host families. A new trip for 2010, Indigenous Costa Rica: A Cultural Encounter, blends three days of volunteering and getting to know the indigenous people with six days of adventure and exploration.
It begins with 1 ˝ days exploring San Jose before venturing to Manzanillo, in the jungle at the edge of the ocean, for a sea kayak and rainforest hike and optional canopy tour. The route to the Talamanca Indigenous Reservation passes the Iguana Refuge and the organic chocolate factory where Petronila carries on her family’s indigenous traditions. The next few nights are spent at the Bambu Cultural Center, the home of Danilo Gabb, where guests get to know him and other children and families. The following day will be spent volunteering at the Cultural Center, the Bambu Retirement Home or the Bratsi Elementary School. Side trips include visiting an organic banana farm, a boat trip to an amazing waterfall, and a visit with a local shaman in Amubri, the main village inside the reservation. After a tearful goodbye to new friends in Bambu, the trip returns to San Jose.
The trip includes transportation, lodging, three meals, project placement and training and in-country support. The price starts at $1549 per person, double. The itinerary is complete customizable to meet guests’ needs. Holiday seasons typically carry surcharges.
