ProFighting-fans.com Covers UFC Fight Night: Diaz vs Guillard
With a big week of MMA events scheduled next week for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, ProFighting-fans.com will feature coverage of each event beginning with UFC Fight Night 19 on Wednesday evening in Oklahoma City.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 10, 2009 ) Cleveland, OH - Next week is going to be a big week for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the premier mixed martial arts promoter on the planet, as they bring us three blockbuster events in a four-day span. First, one Wednesday, September 16, the UFC will broadcast a free UFC Fight Night card on Spike TV as a lead-in to The Ultimate Fighter 10 Heavyweights, the UFC's popular reality show, following that up with the Pay Per View broadcast of UFC 103 on Saturday, September 19, which features a main event between former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort.
In case you will be unable to view the UFC Fight Night 19 card & results on Wednesday night, ProFighting-fans.com has you covered with live, round by round results from the televised main card starting at 9pm Eastern Time. Featuring a main event pitting two of the lightweight division’s most notorious trash talkers against each other—Nate Diaz and Melvin Guillard—the event also features a significant lightweight clash between fan-favorite Roger Huerta and highly-ranked contender Gray Maynard in a bout that could push Maynard one step close to a shot at the lightweight belt currently sported by BJ Penn should he emerge victorious.
After suffering back-to-back losses for the first time in his professional career—to Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson respectively—UFC lightweight Nate Diaz (10-4 MMA) is looking to rebound in a big way with a win over powerful brawler Melvin Guillard (22-7-2, 1 NC MMA), who holds 13 career wins by knockout or TKO. Should he emerge with a win, Diaz could be pitted against another top contender before the end of the year in order to re-establish himself as a credible contender to the lightweight championship.
In the co-main event of the evening, undefeated lightweight wrestling standout and TUF 5 veteran Gray Maynard (7-0, 1 NC MMA) will look to make as good a case as any for a shot at the winner of the UFC 107 lightweight title match between BJ Penn and Diego Sanchez with a victory over fan-favorite Mexican-American fighter Roger Huerta (20-2-1, 1 NC MMA), who is coming off of a layoff that spanned more than a year. Huerta’s last effort was a Unanimous Decision loss to former top contender Kenny Florian in August of 2008 at UFC 87, while Maynard was last seen in action against Jim Miller, whom he defeated by Unanimous Decision in March of this year at UFC 96. This is the last fight on Huerta’s current UFC contract.
