Dr. Rick Schaefer Says the Law of Attraction Applies to Self Love
Milwaukee, WI. Dr. Rick Schaefer, author of Extreme Thought Makeover, insists that it is not selfish to give love and appreciation to yourself; and that the exact opposite is true.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 31, 2009 ) Dr. Rick Schaefer commented "Although there is an abundance of information that is offered to people on the topic of self love, much of it is directed towards an end result, such as receiving more financial prosperity or finding a soulmate. There is nothing wrong with those; they are great things to have in life. But anyone who is truly interested in personal development MUST confront the issue of their own self love."
"Because," he continued, "at the heart of it all, the most important reason to acquire self love is simply for yourself and the quality of your life; not so that the end result can be achieved. An interesting note to that is that all of those other things DO then show up once self love is established within yourself, simply because of the law of attraction."
Take a moment to reflect on experiences you have had when you were enjoying yourself and enjoying who you were being. Perhaps you can think of a moment when you were with a group of people and you were feeling especially happy. Maybe you made a funny comment, for instance, and you were laughing at what you said. That is a moment of self love. Remember the way your body felt, which was probably light and joyful. Remember how others around you responded with laughter of their own, and their joy. Remember how all of life felt better in that moment. That is an illustration of the power that self love has to affect your happiness level, and how your happiness can positively affect others too.
Dr. Schaefer continued "Besides not truly understanding the power of self love, many people also do not understand what self love is. They can confuse it with being selfish or arrogant. Self love is simply understanding that each person is valuable and has their own qualities and traits that make them the unique person they are; and loving themselves for who they are."
It is important to be self aware in terms of the thoughts that you automatically think about yourself. Do you have a dominant inner critic who continually negates you? If so, this is the voice that you need to replace with kind and loving thoughts toward yourself. Dr. Schaefer suggested "A starting point is to use the power of appreciation on yourself." Do you like the color of your eyes? Then look in the mirror more often and admire them. Do you like that you are compassionate? Then pay attention to moments when you offer compassion and really appreciate that about yourself. If you cannot think of anything then LOOK for something! How about your baby toe – do you think it is cute? Then say that! Say “I LOVE how cute my baby toe is!”
Dr. Schaefer concluded with this advice: "develop the habit of appreciating something about yourself throughout each day so that you create a solid habit of loving yourself. There are infinite things that you can find to appreciate, so each day pick a few things to appreciate and then develop a lifelong practice of that. As you do this, notice over time what your happiness level is and see if more things appear in your life that bring you a feeling of happiness. You will discover that your life is feeling different than before – that in general it feels much happier!"
