Emerging Memphis band Carey Haynes to perform in Brooklyn, NY Aug. 8th
Southern rock/Americana artist Carey Haynes will be performing Saturday, August 8th in Park Slope, Brooklyn, 248 17th street, at 5PM.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 04, 2009 ) BROOKLYN, NY – Persons of all ages are invited to experience the upcoming performance of Carey Haynes, Southern Rock/Americana artists, this Saturday in Brooklyn, NY. Carey’s debut NY performance will begin at 6PM Saturday, at 248 17th Street, but music fans are encouraged to get there early to grab themselves a good seat. CD’s and T-shirts will be made available for sale, and fans will get a unique opportunity to hear Carey Haynes perform tracks from their new self-titled EP.
Carey’s EP has been several years in the making, with his love affair with music beginning at age 14. “I started to seriously write when I was about 14 or so. It was mostly poetry, and I had a short lived two-man band in high school, but I really started learning the piano when I was 18.” Carey majored in piano and voice in college, and has been performing ever since. His musical ambitions are what one would expect of a free-spirited, talented young artist. “I want to travel, play everywhere I can, see the world. I love being on the road…I remember one party we played and the cops showed up…they decided to let us keep playing, so we started singing ‘I fought the law’…you just can’t plan moments like that.” Long term? “I want to continue to just write songs…the plan is, ideally, people will like those songs and I'll be able to just keep on going.” Which is not to mean that the young Haynes intends to only be a “gigging” performer. “It'd be cool to write a score for a movie down the road,” says Haynes.
A quick listen to Carey Haynes’ EP pulls the listener down a path of passion and feeling. “On the surface, it probably comes across as a bunch of songs about girls,”, says Haynes, “but I think the main theme that's in every song is the personal responsibility we all have for our own lives. A lot of the songs are very sarcastic,” jokes Carey, “Sometimes I’m singing lyrics that are the complete opposite of what I believe.” When asked which lyrics, Carey gets coy: “Ha, you’ll have to listen to the CD and figure that out for yourself. But the true inspiration for these songs just comes from life experiences, rough times, telling stories about life, trying to "capture the feeling and emotion of those moments in time." Sounds like Americana indeed.
