Situated in the midst of a Costa Rica rainforest with the Pacuare River rushing outside the doorstep, it epitomizes romance. The honeymoon suite is a palm-thatched bungalow with wide windows, teak floors and a king bed. The private deck contains a hammock and canopy rattan sofa overlooking the river and tropical forest. Prices are $770 per person in a river-view suite or $853 per person in the honeymoon suite.

Pacuare Lodge is the world’s quintessential eco-resort, from its sustainable building methods to its solar heating panels, use of spring water and water-driven turbine electric generator. While all waste is currently either composted or recycled, the lodge is building a biodigester which will turn organic waste and sewage into methane to heat water and provide more electricity.
