(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 22, 2009 ) Sacramento - California American Water is completing the final stage of a $4.6 million dollar project to replace aging water mains in the Lincoln Oaks water system and improve the reliability of the water system. In this final stage, contractors for the company are excavating and tunneling down 19 feet under Interstate 80 near Antelope Road to install a 24-inch casing containing a 12-inch water main. The main will run for 520 feet under I-80 and tie into existing mains located in neighborhoods on each side of the highway.

“Boring under a freeway is a complicated undertaking but has real benefits,” said Northern California general manager Andy Soule. “This additional intertie will increase the reliability of our water system with the minimum amount of new pipe.”

This is the final phase of a $4.6 million dollar project to relocate water mains in several neighborhoods in the Lincoln Oaks service area.
