Enjoy a Winter Wonderland Weekend in Scenic Southern Utah

Experience a full weekend of outdoor winter recreation on this three-day trip in Utah's canyonlands.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 21, 2009 ) CEDAR CITY, Utah–The Cedar City-Brian Head area of southern Utah boasts some of the best snow in the country and they make the most of this resource by providing an array of fun wintertime activities that can be explored over a long weekend. This weekend itinerary is generally available from late November through mid-April.

Begin the first day with skiing or snowboarding at Brian Head Resort. It boasts over 400 inches of Utah powder, yet has the lowest lift ticket prices in Utah for a full-service resort and virtually no waits for the lifts. There are over 500 acres of trails and several terrain parks. One of its two mountains is completely dedicated to beginning skiers and snowboarders, with a sports school and daycare center. That night continue with night skiing or boarding or head into one of the nearby towns for evening activities. Day two begins with a guided snowmobile tour through Cedar Breaks National Monument and Dixie National Forest. The highway is closed to traffic and becomes a groomed trail for snowmobiles, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing. That afternoon, choose between a visit to a day spa to work out the kinks or venture back to Brian Head Resort for another afternoon on the slopes.

Bryce Canyon National Park is the destination on day three for snowshoeing or cross country skiing. Ski trails in the park connect with groomed ski tracks at nearby Ruby’s Inn Nordic Center. And the hiking trails become showshoe trails on guided excursions organized by park service staff. A fun option for tonight is night tubing at Brian Head. The morning of day four is for a snowshoe excursion to Cedar Breaks, following the easy Timber Creek trail or the more strenuous Middle Fork of Taylor Creek. In the afternoon, hike in Kolob Canyons to the Canyon Overlook with its incredible view of the finger canyons.
