Hike, Snorkel, and Cave Tube in the Mayan Mountains of Belize with Aventouras
This unique ecotour, created by award-winning sustainable tour operator Aventouras, offers adventure travelers the chance to explore the jungles, mountains, caves, and rivers of Western Belize at an incredible value.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 07, 2009 ) Evergreen, Colo.-- Aventouras, an award-winning adventure company that specializes in active trips to Latin American countries is offering an eco-adventure vacation that takes travelers to the hidden parts of Belize. Unlike most Belize tours that focus on the well-known coastal scuba diving resorts of the country, Aventouras starts their trips by taking travelers to the mountains, jungles, caves, and rivers of western Belize, followed by snorkeling and the shore on the second half of the trip. And priced at under $2300, this trip also offers a great value for travelers.
From wandering the impressive remains of ancient Mayan cultures, to snorkeling in the second longest barrier reef in the world, this trip will satisfy the outdoor adventure appetite of the most avid eco-adventure traveler. This fast-paced itinerary takes visitors from the jungles, rivers, and forest preserves near the remote western border with Guatemala, to the southern part of the country and the Great Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. Join local guides and naturalists as they share their knowledge of this fascinating country.

Lodging highlights
Western Belize has several lodges that are perfect escapes for nature lovers and adventurers. One of our local favorite is Black Rock Lodge, off-the-beaten-path in the forest outside of San Ignacio, with hiking, swimming, tubing, riding, and cave exploration on-site or very nearby. Travelers can hike from the Lodge to the fascinating Che Chem Ha cave, for a guided tour with William Morales, the finder and keeper of the cave which he discovered in 1999. This dry cave contains Mayan artifacts undisturbed for centuries; pristine pots and a blood-letting alter at the end of the cave where Mayan shamans performed religious rites. After the hike and cave exploration enjoy a tube float or horseback ride back to Black Rock.
Black Rock Lodge is working with the non-profit conservation organization Programme for Belize, and is involved in conservation and community work. Black Rock Lodge has been producing its own clean electricity through both solar and hydro power since 1989. Departure dates: July 18 and December 27, 2009 and February 6 and April 24 2010. All Inclusive Cost: $2298 ($500 single supplement). Click here for more information.
