(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 28, 2009 ) Smithfield’s Chicken N Bar-B-Q announced they have “adopted” US Navy EOD Mobile Unit Three, a military unit currently deployed to southern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The company plans on sending the unit a care package every month filled with cards, magazines, food, and other items the soldiers would enjoy.

The company became aware of the unit through their Facebook fan page, when one of the unit’s soldiers commented on how much he missed Smithfield’s Chicken N Bar-B-Q. Smithfield’s Chicken N Bar-B-Q sent the unit t-shirts and two cases of hushpuppy mix. The unit prepared the hushpuppies at their Memorial Day Cookout and “enjoyed having a taste of home,” according to the soldiers.
