The river’s rapids dashed Lewis and Clark’s hopes of finding an all-water route to the Pacific Ocean; however, it didn’t deter countless other adventurers and pioneers. Along the Salmon’s corridor, remnants of old homesteads, gold mines, graveyards, orchards and ancient Indian pictographs remain and bear silent witness to the dreams and struggles of a bygone era.
