Solo and Phoebe are a Canine Team who Brighten the Days for People in Assisted Living Facilities

Lori Purdy Faitel, author of the book, “Am I Brain Damaged,” takes her canine team to work with her

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 23, 2009 ) West Bloomfield, MI – Lori Purdy Faitel, local author, takes her two dogs to work with her; they are happy to visit with the residents in an assisted care facility. Many people who live there do not receive regular visitors; Solo and Phoebe bring them joy as they run to residents to both give and receive love and affection.

Lori is the author of the recently released book, “Am I Brain Damaged??” The book is a compilation of her memoirs written as she recovered from a closed-head injury as the result of an automobile accident when she was 25 years old. Lori woke from a 7-day coma to face the challenges of learning to walk and talk all over again.

Lori writes about her recovery as she recalls being like a child in an adult body; she describes the difficulty the normal public has with the mentally handicapped. She faced many challenges, both physical and mental. Lori went through moral and social struggles and she feels blessed to have followed the correct path.

Though she was told she may not recover beyond an 8th grade level, Lori beat the odds as she graduated college and received an Associates Degree in business and a two-year certificate in occupational therapy. She currently works as an occupational therapy assistant, helping others who also face challenges in their lives.

During a recent interview, Lori said, “At one point during my recovery, I remember telling or being told that I was alive because God wanted me to be. To this day I am sure I was kept alive to serve others and utilize what I have been through to help people. I have used this mantra through the years of recuperation and professionally as an Occupational Therapist, when something has become hard to handle, or difficult to learn, or perform professionally I have known God is behind me, and his plan for me is, to help others”

Lori’s book is available today; visit http://outskirtspress.com/amibraindamaged or

With GOD all things are possible. Thank you Lord for all that I have and all that I am.
