CONGRESS TRYING TO THE SHUT DOWN PET STORES WITH HR-669

"The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act" HR-669 is before the Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, Oceans and Wildlife in the United States Congress. This bill would effectively make it illegal to own, sell, or breed aquarium fish, birds, reptiles.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 21, 2009 ) Myrtle Beach, SC - Wild Creations a South Carolina aquarium manufacturer stated its strong opposition to HR-669 "The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act" a bill in Congress that will effectively kill the pet industry today. “Anyone with or who want pet fish, birds, reptiles, or small mammals will be impacted by this bill. Any company selling product or services for pet fish, birds, reptiles or small mammals will be banned from doing so by this bill. Over 8,000 stores in the US would lose a significant part of their sales and in a lot of cases would have to shut their doors”, said company president Rhett Power.

Wild Creations core product is there unique EcoAquarium™ that provides all the benefits of a large aquarium environment in a small, easy to maintain aquarium that are ideal for homes, offices, schools, and dormitories.

Pete Gasca the companies CEO said that,” we will be at the congressional hearing in Washington Thursday to let Congress know how much we disagree with this legislation. What we intend to do is speak for the15 million households in United States that own an aquariums”.

According to Power, “We support the underlying intent of HR 669 to establish a risk-based process in order to prevent the introduction of potentially invasive species. However, HR 669 falls far short of accomplishing this objective. The bill just goes too far and wipes out every species that is non native, many of which are species that are responsibly bred in the US. Responsible protection is good; killing an industry because of special interest pressure to rush through a bill is not”.

Wild Creations manufactures its EcoAquarium™ in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Tacoma Washington. It distributes to over 500 retail outlets in 40 states. Visit them online at www.wildcreations.com.
