Southern Utah Offers Stunning Fall Foliage
Fall foliage and New England are closely linked, but southern Utah offers an explosion of vibrantly colored leaves set against bright cliff faces. The result is a unique foliage display.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 17, 2009 ) CEDAR CITY, Utah–Visitors come to the Cedar City-Brian Head area of southern Utah in the summer to visit Bryce, Zion, Cedar Breaks and other iconic scenic landmarks. But the area has also been lauded by USA Today and the Today Show for vibrant fall foliage. It offers golden aspens, set against cliff faces that are brightly colored with reds, oranges and browns. Kolob Canyon features spectacular canyon scenery or follow Cedar Breaks’ Alpine Ponds Trail as it winds through trees and meadows for great foliage.
Cedar City is known as Festival City USA and the events continue through the autumn. The Great American Stampede on Sept. 10-12 offers western-themed activities such as a horse parade down Main Street and a professional rodeo at the Cross Hollows Events Center. The Tony award-winning Utah Shakespearean Festival follows up its summer season with a fall schedule from Sept. 18-Oct. 17. Three plays, Tuesdays With Morrie, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, and The Woman in Black will be performed Tuesdays through Saturdays. The Cedar City SkyFest is held Sept. 18-20 at Bicentennial Park. It includes hot air balloons, radio-controlled airplanes, kites and balloon competitions.
