ACT Program Director and Actress Malese Jow Interviewed on NBC’s “Good Company”
The Program Director of ACT, along with actor/singer Malese Jow and a former ACT student, was interviewed by NBC’s “Good Company” TV host Andrea Vecchio in Cleveland.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 18, 2009 ) Cleveland, Ohio – “Good Company” is a WKYC Channel 3, NBC affiliate, mid-morning talk show hosted by Andrea Vecchio and Michael Cardamone. On Friday, March 13, 2009, Vecchio’s guests included celebrity Malese Jow (from Nickelodeon’s show "Unfabulous"), ACT Satellite Program Director Erin Cameron and former ACT student Lou Wegner.
Vecchio lead into the interview by asking ACT’s Erin Cameron a little about the ACT program. Cameron thoughtfully described how the ACT program teaches its students the techniques of working in the entertainment industry from both a creative and a business perspective. According to Cameron, ACT puts a focus on the artistic side of the entertainment industry as well as the business side. “We teach kids 6 to 17,” said Cameron. “We put them in front of industry professionals from LA and NY, and they get to showcase what they’ve learned in class.”
Actress Malese Jow eagerly expressed her impression of the ACT program by summarizing how the program literally brings Hollywood to cities around the country. When asked by Vecchio if she felt it important for young people to have classes, Jow replied, “My family and I did it the hard way. We really did go into LA really green. Didn’t know much [about the industry]. We wasted a few years just trying to learn [the industry] on our own.” Jow went on to say, “I’ve seen what they [ACT] do. I’ve attended some of their events. They give Q&As when I come and I talk to them [the students]. It’s really great, what they provide for these kids.” It was very clear that Jow fully endorses the ACT program.
Jow is perhaps best known for playing the Geena Fabiano role on the Nickelodeon series “Unfabulous,” alongside Emma Roberts, and her 2007 role in the movie “Bratz” as the character Quin in the popular group of high school girls from the film. Today, Jow is very focused on her acting and music. According to her MySpace.com page, she wants “to have a career in the entertainment industry that spans over a lifetime…”
Former ACT student Lou Wegner also expressed a desire to make it as a performing artist and remain in the entertainment industry as long as possible. The young man told Vecchio how he used to be into sports, but then became dedicated to finding work in the entertainment industry once exposed to acting classes.
ACT students are continuously being exposed to important entertainment and performing arts agents, casting directors and talent scouts. Wegner was signed by a talent agent not too long after beginning the ACT program. Wegner caught the attention of a number of industry professionals early on. While in the ACT program he auditioned and received callbacks from Ryan Daly, talent agent for Innovative Artists, as well as Paul Weber, Casting Director for MGM. His ACT successes prompted his family to move to Hollywood where he could better pursue his dream to work in film and television. He is currently living in the LA area, has LA talent representation and regularly reads or auditions for television and film roles.
