Jennifer Maupin Presents 'The downtown project' at Henri-Odette, Las Vegas
The Hot place in Vegas to present Art- Jennifer Maupin to present “The downtown Project at Henri-Odette!
(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 03, 2009 ) Las Vegas, NV -- Jennifer Maupin, a freelance photographer will be showing her work at an opening reception at Jennifer Harrington’s new venture Henri & Odette. Henri & Odette is located at: 124 South Sixth Street, Suite 130, LV, NV 89101, Phone; 702-686-3164. Jennifer will be presenting her photographs on March 6, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. Jennifer is a student at the College of Southern Nevada where she has received the Boegen Café Scholarship. Her most recent work is “The Downtown Project” which was a series of pictures that depict the many faces of Las Vegas.
Jennifer specializes in portraying in a positive light, downtown Las Vegas and those who are helping to revitalize it.
Charlotte Hsu reported in an article in the Las Vegas Sun once that “Maupin’s portraits of downtown notables have a crisp, clean quality. The Las Vegas in her photographs is the one we know, only more beautiful, more immaculate. The colors are rich, almost creamy, the lights and shadows more pronounced”.
Those physical qualities of her art reflect her feelings about parts of the city other people consider downtrodden and gritty. Her vision of that neighborhood is different. Her fiancee works for the city supporting redevelopment of the area. She lives in Summerlin but often heads downtown to dine, catch a movie or check out antique stores.
“Downtown seems like there’s more of a community ... I don’t want to knock Summerlin at all, because I live here and I like it, but it also comes off as a bit superficial,” said Maupin, a Michigan native who moved here nearly five years ago after spending time in Los Angeles.
So she set out to use her personal project to portray downtown “in a good light.”
Among the people she has photographed, are Sam Cherry, the developer behind Vegas projects such as Soho Lofts; Michael Cornthwaite, owner of the Downtown Cocktail Room; and mayor Oscar B Goodman.
Jennifer has continued to add to her series “The Downtown Project”. Part of what drives her to shoot, she says, is peoples enthusiasm for the project. It is inspiring to see all the people of downtown coming together to promote other people, generate goodwill and promote the greatness of downtown. It was just a really nice experience, and it still is.”
In addition to her series “The Downtown Project”, you can view more of her work at: http://jennmphotography.carbonmade.com/, or get information about “The Downtown Project” at www.henri-odette.com
